The 2010 Moment

Whenever each new year rolls around, I always make a conscious effort to come up with a list of resolutions. Sometimes they are accomplished – often times, they are not. Nevertheless, no matter what the outcome is, I have always believed that it is paramount to provide some kind of projected framework for the new year. Now this goes entirely against my everyday philosophy of living in the moment, but there you have it: we all eventually feel a need for a little structure in our lives. In every past year, I felt compelled to make a resolution list. This year, however, a different feeling bubbled inside me.

Perhaps it is the fact that this year is the start of a new decade. Perhaps it has something to do with the new year being ushered in by the extremely rare phenomenon of a lunar eclipse of a blue moon. Whatever it is, the year 2010 carries the unmistakable sense of auspiciousness that smoothed my annual churning panic to a calm, ripple-less serenity.

In that moment of clarity, I tore up the metaphorical list and threw the pieces into the air to add to the celebratory confetti – 2010 will be a year of truly living in the moment.
