The Human Show
What if, at this very moment, the entire world is watching me type out every word of this sentence with bated breath? Or what if they are taking in every line on your forehead as you furrow your brow in concern over whether I have finally lost my marbles and spiralled downwards to become a paranoid schizophrenic? What would you do? What would you do when you suddenly discover that your entire “normal” life is nothing more than a set-up – a series of daily episodes of a realer-than-the-real-McCoy reality T.V. show? Would you calmly take it all in a stride? Or would you go bonkers and just freak out?
I would go bonkers and just freak out. Yep…I’m pretty sure about that. If there’s anything I’m 100% sure about, it’s that. Well, except that other time I was absolutely positive I could defy gravity when I was a kid…yeah, that didn’t work out very well. Lost a bit of my dignity. And my two front teeth. But that’s another story. So anyway, yes…I would definitely freak out. Maybe go on a rampage or two as well.
This whole rambling discussion, of course, all stemmed from watching The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey. Or rewatched it for the umpteenth time, rather. It is undeniably a movie that deserves to be immortalized. It’s thought-provoking and so very possible with each passing day. The concept was a bit bizarre back when the movie was made, but it is becoming less and less so as our appetite for “reality T.V.” continues to grow almost exponentially.
I think in the back of our minds, we know that there can never really be a “true reality T.V. show”. Yet, we somehow still manage to convince ourselves otherwise and become captivated by each new episode that comes out. It doesn’t make sense, but the fact of the matter is: we are helplessly attached to the faint hope that there is a slim chance we may catch a glimpse of the meaning of life in one of those episodes. Just one tiny glimmer that would give us a clue about what our next step should be.
We’ve always been both fascinated and terrified about the future. This is why astrology, fortune-telling, tarot-card reading, or any other divination method will never die out. I personally do not like “reality T.V. shows” because of the very fact that they are a mockery of their own name. However, I am guilty of being irresistibly drawn to them. I can’t help it – it’s always that one little glimpse I keep chasing after. And even though I know I may never catch it, I still keep trying.
Why?
Because I am human.

hehe, so good movie choice??
did you like it?
I will assume you did.
I first watched it in Philosophy 11 and yeah, GOOD MOVIE!
n i will bring more good movies when i come up.
Yay! I’ve been getting antsy for more lately. Channel-surfing gets boring way too quickly and it’s too cold to venture out to Rogers.
