The End Of The World

Remember that great flash animation that took the Internet realm by storm years ago and depicted the end of the world? I just came upon it again today and I couldn’t stop cracking up. Just so I don’t look like an idiot laughing by myself, I’m going to inject some good cheer in you too by showing you the infamous clip:

The End Of The World

What’s hilarious about this clip is the dryness in which all the subtle pokes at just about every single major country in the world were presented. Although I must point out that they drew the Chinese flag wrong (not sure if they purposely did that or not. The Chinese flag has five golden stars on a red background, not a red circle on a white background – that’s the Japanese). The incredibly “high-tech” way the animations were drawn added to the fun as well. And above all, this clip hits the most likely way our world will come to an end spot on.

The tension in our world is so palpable now and it has escalated more than ever. More and more rising countries are vying to exert their positions on the world stage while the once-upon-a-time-deemed-omnipotent U.S. government is wavering in its self-styled position of “world police”. All it takes is a nervous twitch of a finger over the ominous “Red Button” in one country and all hell would be unleashed. Of course, we fervently hope that will not be the case. I mean really, a nuclear war would be a horrible way for the world to end. It’s such an undignified exit from life. Rage, fire, confusion, smoke, fallout – where’s the dignity in that?

If I must choose an end for the world, I would choose the “Sun Exploding” option. That’s because we can actually plan for it as we watch the Sun slowly expand in our skies. With the vast distance in space between our Earth and the Sun, it would take at least a day for the explosion to engulf us (correct me if I’m wrong – I never did have the brain of a physicist). Plus, it’s not scheduled to happen until approximately five billion years from now, which is a definite bonus for us lucky folks who live in this lifetime.

One Response to “The End Of The World”

  1. I dunno, it takes about 8 and a half minutes for the light from the sun to reach earth, despite the enormous distance… although I suppose the actual gasses would take longer to travel than the light would. Still, I think I’d rather not know the end was coming than to have a day to stress about it. Have you ever seen “Last Night” (with Sandra Oh)?

Thanks for sharing the clip – I’d never actually seen it before. Must’ve gone around in the years I was living with dial-up…
